Bea Barnes 1925-2008

Mable Betrice “Bea” Barnes, 83, Kokomo, died at 11:07 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born March 13, 1925, in Hawkins County, Tenn., to John and Eliza Ruth (Davis) Carpenter. She married Clarie Lee Barnes on Aug. 7, 1940, and he died May 28, 2008.

She was a homemaker and retired as an alterations manager at J.C. Penney in Kokomo with 20 years of service.

She was a member of Faith Church of Christ in Burlington. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She is survived by two sons, Tom Barnes and wife Ruth, Kokomo, and Dan Barnes and wife Margaret, Kokomo; two daughters, Barbara Wagoner and husband Carl, Whitehouse, Tenn.; and Peggy Carter and husband Garnett, Greentown; one sister, Helen Webb, Kokomo; one brother, Dave Carpenter and wife Debbie, Kokomo; two sister-in-laws, Anna Roark, Kokomo, and Lola Barnes of Flora; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Lybrook, Frankfort. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Maria Dorris, Trisha Irbe, Bart Wagoner, Jason Barnes, Kim LaFollette, Ken Barnes, Ron Barnes, Tim Barnes, Jeremy Carter and Mandy Graham; 22 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one brother, Jim Carpenter; three sisters, Ina Walker, Betty Bean and Midge Carson; one granddaughter, Carrie Ann Carter; and one sister-in-law, Betty Lybrook.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Steve Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens in Kokomo. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
